More for less

Does stuff make us happy?

Are 10 dresses hung up in the wardrobe better than just the 2 you actually wear? Bottles and bottles of moisturiser, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and face wash, when a bar of soap Would do?

When you have a couple of hours to kill so you go shopping, feeling a bit blue? Shopping? New job? New outfit! Single? New outfits!!

What has happened to buying once and buying right?

We have become such a throw away society and it’s killing the planet!

We buy so much crap. Let alone the single use plastics we use. We buy into fast fashion, buy an outfit for when we lose weight (we never do) or in a colour we really should wear (but never do). We buy air fresheners that pollute our homes, cleaning products which poison us and eat food that are killing us.

No more!! Not in my house!

Poetry – Life’s inspiration

This is one of the first poems that i ever heard and i instantly fell in love.

Self pity

I never saw a wild thing

sorry for itself.

a small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself

Poetry – Pain

Pain is a funny thing that everyone encounters

Emotional

Physical

Both hard to deal with and yet both completely different.

The gauze that hangs over everything. The bleakness…..grey, damp, cold, lonely.

When lulled into a false sense of security, pain creeps up and stabs you in the heart and stomach slowly pulling you apart.

You can cry until there are no more tears, fall asleep and find courage in the blankness of sleep, ready to go through it all again tomorrow.

The wort part isn’t the excruciating pulling its the nothingness, the numbness, no feeling.

The worst pain is no pain at all

Travel whilst pregnant

Being 22 weekend pregnant my husband and I decided we would take the opportunity to go on a baby-moon which is essentially a holiday whilst pregnant to just be a happy couple and have a bit of us time.

When me and Andrew first got together we went to Venice for our first holiday and it was great although we stayed in a hostel so wasn’t as romantic as it could have been so we decided to go again but this time stay in a hotel. It was much better. We stayed for 4 days 3 nights and really enjoyed it

Before we set off I made sure the travel insurance we purchased covered us should something happen involving my pregnancy and photocopied my pregnancy notes. I even bought flight socks which as I’ve never used any before I can say they are actually surprisingly comfy and my legs didn’t feel quite as “heavy”.

Whilst away I had growing pains once a day for about half an hour and Henry had a growth spurt or more accurately I did. I woke up the day after getting there and my stomach seemed to have sprung out of nowhere but apparently that’s a thing that happens…. Something else which provided entertainment is it was whilst away on this romantic getaway my breasts decided to start leaking clear fluid… Why is pregnancy so God damn sexy!

Packing was a bit hit and miss I wish I had brought lip balm and a different moisturiser for my stomach. It was that cold being January and all, I didn’t wear any of the nice clothes I packed and ended up wearing as many layers as possible and my coat the entire time!

Andrew was really patient with me which was amazing he didn’t rush me and constantly reminded me to go and pee before we left anywhere. Was always there to rub my back when Henry decided to push or pull or whatever it is he has been doing on the inside. So all in all it has been an amazing and very enjoyable trip. I just need a holiday now to recover from this holiday ha ha 😂

Pregnancy beauty both good and bad!

Dry skin: I suffer from psoriasis on my hands, feet and scalp. Whenever I’m particularly stressed out the stuff on my scalp comes down slightly and goes onto my forehead but never further down than my eyebrows. Luckily I have a fringe so if it gets bad I just wear my fringe down and it’s hidden… Sorted. Being pregnant has had a very strange effect on my skin as the psoriasis I have on my hands and feet has completely cleared up and the stuff which is only very occasionally on my forehead was taking centre stage. I was caught in a tight place… The more stuff I put on my skin to help with the skin condition the worse it seemed to get, which is pretty standard really but still annoying as you can imagine. Once I got into the second half of the second trimester it seemed to clear up so fingers crossed it will stay away for a while.

Hair: My hair feels amazing! This is definitely a great side effect of pregnancy it’s growing like crazy and feels really thick (although I know it will all come out once baby is here). I cant put conditioner on it or it will get greasy in what feels like 2 seconds flat but oh well not exactly a bad thing! Will save me loads of money between now and the little critters arrival!

Nails: Also growing like crazy although they do seem a little brittle but that could be my imagination. With work all day I really am surprised that they last at all!

Bath bombs: Unfortunately I have had to put my bath bomb obsession to bed, at least until May. They have caused a brief encounter with a PH Imbalance that I sure as hell don’t want a repeat of! The doctor said now I’m pregnant I am more likely to get this sort of thing and if I’ve one once I’ll probably get another! 😱

Tummy: On my expanding stomach I have been applying The body shops Coconut body butter, Palmer’s cocoa butter and boots mummy oil spray for stretch marks. I love the smell and consistency of the body butter it’s definitely the one I have been applying the most, I find the cocoa butter too sweet smelling and the oil spray feels disgusting on my skin…

At home Pedicures

I am unfortunately burdened like many other people with rough dry dead skin on the bottom of my foot. I have my own little dead skin platforms that are unsightly and quite frankly a bit gross. Getting them out in public has always caused me some embarrassment but life’s just a little too short!

After scouring the Internet for what products works the best it was Groupon than saved the day with a fabulous offer on a magipedi. It was £30 reduced from £90 and now all of my foot problems were going to be a thing of the past!

image

I got the micopedi and began using it on my troubled areas and in a cloud of dead skin and about 40 minutes later I decided enough was enough! After hoovering up a considerable amount of sawdust my feet felt smoother, softer and much healthier. Feeling rather dusty after my skin removal I jumped in the shower and nearly broke my neck but I guess I just didn’t have as much grip as I was used to!

After a few days the skin on my feet began to string off like on the side of your finger nails when you have been chewing them. But I sanded them all off with my handy foot sander. I don’t think I was using it nearly as much as someone with the amount of deadline as I have should have been and it never really got much further down….

Foot revival part 2:

On a knifes edge; wandering around boots I came across a very strange looking razor designed for feet. Now this isn’t the type of razor that you buy to get rid of unsightly toe hairs but to actually shave the excess skin from your feet… Tasty.

I got home and wanted to get on with this interesting purchase and soaked my feet in hot/warm water with added coconut and lavender oil!

After about half an hour I got my soaking soft tootsies out of the water and began my foot shaving experiment. What happened next is pretty awesome. The skin just literally came off, it was like peeling a potato, I got loads of skin off and my feet and they started feeling really quite normal again! Once I finished with my shaven feet I sanded them once more, just to get things really smooth and moistured them well.

My feet now are alot smoother and I don’t have my little platform anymore but if I don’t regularly sand them down it soon starts to come back!

If you want nice smooth feet I would definitely give them a try but it is a lot of work. But your body is a temple and you are supposed to look after it!

My latest delivery from love me beauty.

A little underwelming, overall the products in the box were good. I love the lipstick, its in a metal case and it really does feel expensive, the shade is Wild Peony. Its a good shade as i think it will go nicely with all skin tones and a great transitional shade from Summer to Autumn!

The carmex is also another safe thing to add although do we really need two different flavours?

The nailsinc gel like nail polish is rubbish. It looks great when you first put it on, but within a day it begins to chip and i havent been doing anything overly strenuous! I have this nail polish in 3 shades now from various Beauty boxes so its clear Nailsinc are doing some serious PR work or just giving away all their rubbish for free!

I do love subscription boxes and this isnt really typical of what you get in them, i just think maybe they were a little stick for idea’s maybe?

The box including delivery is £14 and i would pay that for the lipstick alone so i guess i got a few freebies!

If any of you get a beauty box let me know which ones or if youve written blog posts about them! I would live to know what other people think of them!

The chicken incident

Hello everyone!

So i have a story to tell and it is a little strange.

A couple of weeks ago my husband and i decided we would go meat free for a week to shake up the food we ate as we have realised we are eating far too much meat as humans and individuals.

The week went well with only one slip up involving cheese and Andrew was really looking forward to eating meat again but in a more ethical way… organic, free range meat, not every day of the week. I however have gotten rather emotional about everything. When i found out that gorgonzola had calf rennet i did a lot of Internet research about what other seemingly meat free products had a dark secret. I didnt dive straight back into meat eating and in fact it was Tuesday this week when we were out shopping and tired we decided to go to Nandos, i ate my usual plate of chicken and felt non plussed about it all.

When i got home i started doing a big morrisons shop and was checking out the organic chickens…

£6.50 each shocked at the price i looked at non organic at 2 for £5. I showed Andrew who then said… its crazy isnt it how we think £6.50 is expensive for a whole animals life….

That was it! The flood gates opened, i burst into tears and  i suddenly got it.

Ive always known that we eat animals… ive known where they come from… somehow through Andrews choice of words it all became clear.

I have made a choice… i will no longer eat meat. I started this a few weeks ago just trying to make better decisions, make a difference in my own choices and i have come through the other side different. Even writing this im getting rather emotional.

Seeing my very emotional response to that organic chicken, Andrew has said he will support me in my choice not to eat meat as best as he can.

May all the chickens live long happy healthy lives!

Not so great!

Hey guys so here is another product review. Again i got this in a beautybox subscription and the idea is awesome…

In reality its awful.

The stuff smells great which is a bonus.

On Superdrugs website:

Zerreau Towel Off Apple Shampoo 180ml
£5.99

Zerreau is a brand new concept in hair washing, allowing you to wash your hair properly but with absolutely no water required. It really cleans effectively, even removing product such as hairspray, wax or gels. Leaving you with soft clean lushious locks! Zerreau is NOT a leave in product and its NOT a dry shampoo either!
Soft clean hair anywhere, on the bus, in a tent, at the office
No water required, removes dirt, odours & product – effectively
Delightful delicate aroma – Apple or Strawberry fragrance
Kind and gentle, designed for long term use(no alcohol or parabens)
Proven demand (established market for our medical brand)
Easy to use (foaming, no drips or mess)
Quality product that’s safe to use (UK manufactured, complies with European Cosmetics Directive).
Wash your hair effectively without water. Ideal Ideal for busy lifestyles, meetings, impromptu dates, gyms, and festivals and camping so you can wake up a bit later and look glamorous and clean before you have even left your tent, feeling sorry for those who got up at 7am and are still queueing for the showers, which are dirty by the time you use them!

In theory great but in reality… it makes my hair feel even worse! Worse than a build up of dry shampoo. Its not greasy as such but but it makes my hair feel really thick (not in a good way) and heavy, it sticks to your head even when you blow dry it to have volume. It just sucks! Stay away at all costs youll be better going greasy for the day!
