Travel whilst pregnantΒ

Being 22 weekend pregnant my husband and I decided we would take the opportunity to go on a baby-moon which is essentially a holiday whilst pregnant to just be a happy couple and have a bit of us time.

When me and Andrew first got together we went to Venice for our first holiday and it was great although we stayed in a hostel so wasn’t as romantic as it could have been so we decided to go again but this time stay in a hotel. It was much better. We stayed for 4 days 3 nights and really enjoyed it

Before we set off I made sure the travel insurance we purchased covered us should something happen involving my pregnancy and photocopied my pregnancy notes. I even bought flight socks which as I’ve never used any before I can say they are actually surprisingly comfy and my legs didn’t feel quite as “heavy”.

Whilst away I had growing pains once a day for about half an hour and Henry had a growth spurt or more accurately I did. I woke up the day after getting there and my stomach seemed to have sprung out of nowhere but apparently that’s a thing that happens…. Something else which provided entertainment is it was whilst away on this romantic getaway my breasts decided to start leaking clear fluid… Why is pregnancy so God damn sexy!

Packing was a bit hit and miss I wish I had brought lip balm and a different moisturiser for my stomach. It was that cold being January and all, I didn’t wear any of the nice clothes I packed and ended up wearing as many layers as possible and my coat the entire time!

Andrew was really patient with me which was amazing he didn’t rush me and constantly reminded me to go and pee before we left anywhere. Was always there to rub my back when Henry decided to push or pull or whatever it is he has been doing on the inside. So all in all it has been an amazing and very enjoyable trip. I just need a holiday now to recover from this holiday ha ha πŸ˜‚

Slimming world

This is a very late post about my slimming world experience.

All I can say is that it really is such a great system in 6 months I managed to lose 2 stone. Got into a size 12 with room in my pants to spare… Amazing.

At no point did I feel deprived. If i wanted something I had it. It made the decisions to have unhealthy food easier, if I decided to have a chocolate bar I would choose which ever food gave me the most value for my syns. If I could have a certain chocolate bar for a 5 syns and another type for 10 syns I’d have 2 of the lower syn bar…

The thing that slimming world really did for me was to highlight the amount of empty calories I was having in drinks. Latte’s from Starbucks, fruit juices etc… There are many different options to lower your intake of syns and it was a case of just figuring out what was what and I didn’t have to calorie count.

I loved it!

Once I’ve had my baby I’m getting straight back on it hoping to get down to my 11 stone goal! As I have already managed to go up a stone but i am 6 months in so pretty good going really!

It also kick started my exercise regime which is pretty standard I guess, healthy eating and exercise come hand in hand, my husband and I went walking, running, even walked up and down 16 flights of stairs multiple times! That definitely got the heart rate up!!

Growing up

So on Thursday I Start my slimming world journey. My bmi is 29 I’m getting closer and closer to 13 stone and I need to lose atleast 2 stone to be within my healthy weight range. I’ve tried Weight watchers in the past and I found the weekly meeting a great way to keep up motivation but I found the whole points system far too much like hard work. I didn’t want to have to weigh everything out like a mad woman and I also know what I can and can’t eat. It’s going to be a big year this year and I want to get as healthy as possible! I’m moving house, getting a car hopefully a cat and a dog and maybe even start trying for a family but all of this will be much harder to cope with if when I’m lifting and carrying stuff im out of breath and I don’t want to be over the weight I am now once I’ve had a baby. Why is growing up so ridiculous. Not only do you have to get one thing right or as close as can be you have to do the same for everything! I have a lot of admiration for those people that just get on with things with little to no planning, I’m making back up plans for my back up plans. Who doesn’t have a plan z for everything?!
I’m eating healthier now anyway so its not likeΒ  eating everything we have in between now and Thursday that’s just when I can get to a meeting. I am going to do a weekly blog/video πŸ“Ή about all of this and the step by step journey I’m taking. If anyone wants to do this journey with me id me more than happy! Just send me an email or message me on here!

Hope everyone has a very healthy Tuesday πŸ™‚

The chicken incident

Hello everyone!

So i have a story to tell and it is a little strange.

A couple of weeks ago my husband and i decided we would go meat free for a week to shake up the food we ate as we have realised we are eating far too much meat as humans and individuals.

The week went well with only one slip up involving cheese and Andrew was really looking forward to eating meat again but in a more ethical way… organic, free range meat, not every day of the week. I however have gotten rather emotional about everything. When i found out that gorgonzola had calf rennet i did a lot of Internet research about what other seemingly meat free products had a dark secret. I didnt dive straight back into meat eating and in fact it was Tuesday this week when we were out shopping and tired we decided to go to Nandos, i ate my usual plate of chicken and felt non plussed about it all.

When i got home i started doing a big morrisons shop and was checking out the organic chickens…

Β£6.50 each shocked at the price i looked at non organic at 2 for Β£5. I showed Andrew who then said… its crazy isnt it how we think Β£6.50 is expensive for a whole animals life….

That was it! The flood gates opened, i burst into tears and  i suddenly got it.

Ive always known that we eat animals… ive known where they come from… somehow through Andrews choice of words it all became clear.

I have made a choice… i will no longer eat meat. I started this a few weeks ago just trying to make better decisions, make a difference in my own choices and i have come through the other side different. Even writing this im getting rather emotional.

Seeing my very emotional response to that organic chicken, Andrew has said he will support me in my choice not to eat meat as best as he can.

May all the chickens live long happy healthy lives!

Superstore Manchester

To celebrate being a vegetarian for a whole week, myself, Andrew and my mother went out for a meal!

Andrew has decided that he is going to start eating meat again and but that he is going to make a real effort buying organic meat when possible.

I however have decided to carry on not eating meat. I don’t know how long this will go on for but I’m not in any rush to start again.

The only part I’ve found difficult is lack of choice in the town i work in. There is a gregs which alternative’s are egg or cheese… i know totally spoilt or Marks and Spencers and spend half my wage in there!

Anyway back onto topic! Superstore! I had the Superstore salad! It was the only thing vegetarian on the menu! It was pretty amazing tho! Andrew and my mum had the beef burger! It was huge and neither of them enjoyed it very much! Ha vegetables win!!

The menu itself is overly confusing. Its a mix between a tapas bar and a regular restaurant. Although there isn’t much choice, they also have a specials board but that was over by the time we got there about 6.30pm. It is rather expensive for what it is too.

Andrew and i have been before on a sunday and had a Roast dinner and that was much much better.

It was rather busy even tho it was a Thursday night and service was slow. The waiter did warn us about this but we decided to wait anyway, although Andrew and my wish they hadn’t bothered.

I guess we may just have had a bad experience or maybe they would have been better getting the vegetarian option like me! As i enjoyed mine!

Day 4 meat free

To start the day off right especially on my day off!! Woop! I made a juice πŸ™‚

8 small carrots
3 small apples
1/2 inch peeled ginger
1 small orange
6 inches of cucumber

Tastes soooo nice!

Andrew then made scrambled egg on toast! He makes the best eggs ever nom!

We went to Ikea today…which was dangerous but we only spent a little bit so all is good πŸ™‚ could have come back with too much stuff!

After this we went to Frankie and Bennys with our friends Louise and Ryan. Its never something I’ve noticed before but WOW how slim are the pickings for vegetarians? There were about 5 options overall with a disclaimer at the bottom saying the food was prepared alongside everything else. This is kinda disgusting really, you make a life choice and have it undermined by food chains!
Anyway i had the vegetable burger and Andrew had the red french pizza πŸ™‚ both very tasty πŸ™‚

We got home about 8pm and wern’t really hungry so we didn’t have any dinner last night but i made some breakfast bars. As getting up early to make breakfast is not my thing!
There is a separate post all about the recipe and where and why πŸ™‚

Day 3 Meat free!

Hi everyone!

So day 3 went well!

I had fruit and a coffee for my breakfast! So exciting haha!

For my dinner i had a brie and grape butty πŸ™‚

As Andrew was off today it was up to him to make tea! Which is all good he made a vegetable curry with home made pappadoms! Soooo tasty! Quite hot too ha!

In the curry:

Garlic paste
Tomato paste
Coconut milk
Masala paste
Curry powder
Brown rice

Nom nom!

Ive really discovered over the last 3 days that vegetarian lunch time food is cheese and something… now dont get me wrong i love cheese but where are all the other options? I dont know whether its just because i work outside the city centre, as Andrew has had quite a few good meals on his lunch break such as: mac and cheese burger!

So far sooo good πŸ™‚ im not missing meat at all which is a suprise! Well to me anyway!

Day 2 meat free!

Ok so i want this to be 100% accurate and i dont want to lie about it.

Today both me and Andrew accidentally ate CHEESE that wasnt vegetarian… seriously!

For breakfast i had fruit and yoghurt.

For dinner i had a goats cheese and spinach panini with fruit and nuts.

Then we had gorgonzola cheese sauce over pasta and asparagus.

Gorgonzola being the culprit.

Why oh why is there meat in cheese???

We are adding an extra day onto the end for the over sight and are checking the labels and packaging of everything much more rigorously.

I just dont understand why they put meat in this cheese when stilton is vegetarian and is pretty much the same cheese?! If anyone knows the reason for this please let me know. Ive heard Nutella isnt vegetarian either is this true??? What kind of creatures are mushed up there?

This has actually had a surprising affect on me. Im actually disgusted… eating meat when i’m completely aware is one thing but putting it in things has kinda weirded me out.

Im not into that at all!

I kind of feel like I’ve fallen at thefirst hurdle but it was a complete accident so i have to let it go, if anything this has actually made me more determined!

Seriously not into meaty non meat stuff…

Day one Vegetarian Thursday

So today has been the first day meat free!
Breakfast i had some fruit a yoghurt and a cup of coffee πŸ™‚

Lunch time was the hardest meal of the day to not have meat. I took to work a salad but it was plain… i was walking around marks and Spencers like wtf do i have with a salad thats not meat?
Anyway i got chilli sweetcorn dip, it was really yummy!

For tea i bought some pre rolled pastry… put it on a bit of parchment paper, put the oven on 200Β°c spread pesto over the pastry, butterfried some courgettes, spread them out over the pesto. Chopped up some tomato and mozzarella and put into the oven for 20 minutes. Once its out spread a bit of feta and there you go!!

Super easy and super yum!!
