My expanding lumps and bumps

Being pregnant, expansion of your lady lumps is understandable and is predictable. You have probably heard that when your skin is stretching over your growing bump it becomes dry and itchy… I’m 22 weeks pregnant and i wasn’t expecting to be quite as big as i am. Totally gutted i didn’t take measurements of my stomach at the beginning of my pregnancy, I’m all front thankfully so up to now all my ‘weight’ gain is in the front. I did do a fitness update somewhere in a notebook about a month before getting pregnant soooo kinda need to look for that when i have a spare ounce of effort.

Anyway along with my growing stomach and breasts i have experienced said itching and the uncomfortable tightness of my skin stretching and here are the products I’ve been using to try and combat it. Now i HATE the feel of creams/oils/lotions on any part of my body apart from my lower legs, hands and face. Makes me feel icky and i’m yet to experience the so called ‘sinks straight’ in feeling most stuff advertises. These 3 potions are the only ones i can bare to use and for different reasons!

The Palmer’s smells so sweet, its kind of over bearing but i cope with it as its got vitamin E and my skin feels really supple a few hours after application. Its quite thick so does take a while to sink into my skin. But i have heard good reviews about it from other mums and I’ve already bought it, waste not want not etc…

Maternity Stretch mark oil spray goes on quite warm which is a bonus, nothing worse than rubbing freezing cold stuff all over your stomach when you have just got out of bed or about to go to bed. It doesn’t really smell of much and is the least icky on my skin. I normally spray it into my hands first and then rub it onto my stomach.

The Body shop body butter doesn’t claim to help stretch marks in anyway but i love the smell, it reduces the itching and i feel i can use this all over with out the risk of slipping on the wooden flooring and ending up in the kitchen. Its a quite thick on and clogs your skin a little bit if you put more than one application on in a day, as in its like you haven’t exfoliated your skin in a month….

Pregnancy beauty both good and bad!

Dry skin: I suffer from psoriasis on my hands, feet and scalp. Whenever I’m particularly stressed out the stuff on my scalp comes down slightly and goes onto my forehead but never further down than my eyebrows. Luckily I have a fringe so if it gets bad I just wear my fringe down and it’s hidden… Sorted. Being pregnant has had a very strange effect on my skin as the psoriasis I have on my hands and feet has completely cleared up and the stuff which is only very occasionally on my forehead was taking centre stage. I was caught in a tight place… The more stuff I put on my skin to help with the skin condition the worse it seemed to get, which is pretty standard really but still annoying as you can imagine. Once I got into the second half of the second trimester it seemed to clear up so fingers crossed it will stay away for a while.

Hair: My hair feels amazing! This is definitely a great side effect of pregnancy it’s growing like crazy and feels really thick (although I know it will all come out once baby is here). I cant put conditioner on it or it will get greasy in what feels like 2 seconds flat but oh well not exactly a bad thing! Will save me loads of money between now and the little critters arrival!

Nails: Also growing like crazy although they do seem a little brittle but that could be my imagination. With work all day I really am surprised that they last at all!

Bath bombs: Unfortunately I have had to put my bath bomb obsession to bed, at least until May. They have caused a brief encounter with a PH Imbalance that I sure as hell don’t want a repeat of! The doctor said now I’m pregnant I am more likely to get this sort of thing and if I’ve one once I’ll probably get another! 😱

Tummy: On my expanding stomach I have been applying The body shops Coconut body butter, Palmer’s cocoa butter and boots mummy oil spray for stretch marks. I love the smell and consistency of the body butter it’s definitely the one I have been applying the most, I find the cocoa butter too sweet smelling and the oil spray feels disgusting on my skin…

At home Pedicures

I am unfortunately burdened like many other people with rough dry dead skin on the bottom of my foot. I have my own little dead skin platforms that are unsightly and quite frankly a bit gross. Getting them out in public has always caused me some embarrassment but life’s just a little too short!

After scouring the Internet for what products works the best it was Groupon than saved the day with a fabulous offer on a magipedi. It was £30 reduced from £90 and now all of my foot problems were going to be a thing of the past!

image

I got the micopedi and began using it on my troubled areas and in a cloud of dead skin and about 40 minutes later I decided enough was enough! After hoovering up a considerable amount of sawdust my feet felt smoother, softer and much healthier. Feeling rather dusty after my skin removal I jumped in the shower and nearly broke my neck but I guess I just didn’t have as much grip as I was used to!

After a few days the skin on my feet began to string off like on the side of your finger nails when you have been chewing them. But I sanded them all off with my handy foot sander. I don’t think I was using it nearly as much as someone with the amount of deadline as I have should have been and it never really got much further down….

Foot revival part 2:

On a knifes edge; wandering around boots I came across a very strange looking razor designed for feet. Now this isn’t the type of razor that you buy to get rid of unsightly toe hairs but to actually shave the excess skin from your feet… Tasty.

I got home and wanted to get on with this interesting purchase and soaked my feet in hot/warm water with added coconut and lavender oil!

After about half an hour I got my soaking soft tootsies out of the water and began my foot shaving experiment. What happened next is pretty awesome. The skin just literally came off, it was like peeling a potato, I got loads of skin off and my feet and they started feeling really quite normal again! Once I finished with my shaven feet I sanded them once more, just to get things really smooth and moistured them well.

My feet now are alot smoother and I don’t have my little platform anymore but if I don’t regularly sand them down it soon starts to come back!

If you want nice smooth feet I would definitely give them a try but it is a lot of work. But your body is a temple and you are supposed to look after it!

Sass ingrown hair stopper!

image

Sass intimate perfect skin concentrate, prevents in grown hairs.

No without things getting too detailed i like to make sure that i’m well groomed in certain area’s *cough cough* and an issue i get from this is in grown hairs!

They hurt, they itch, they are ugly…. i may as well have not bothered!

I’ve tried exfoliating before and after shaving and i don’t get anything different! So when i saw this in boots i didn’t really have anything to loose.

The cream its self is quite sticky and takes a little while to dry, i wouldn’t be putting this on my skin before goimf out anywhere as it took ages to dry and i was walking around my apartment starkers for about 30 mins! Good job i’m on the top floor! There is little to no scent which is good for my intimate area’s!

It has helped though but i don’t think i’m going to buy it again. I just don’t have the time to not wear pants everynight for 40 minutes!

What to do with the juicer pulp!

Ok so now that i have a juicer, i have become very aware of the fact that it leaves a LOT behind.

PULP!

I have scoured the internet for some solutions on how NOT to waste all that fiber!

9 Ways to Make the Best of Your Juice Pulp

By: Jamie Webber

It’s a common question for those of us who love juicing our fruits and vegetables… “What can I do with the pulp that is leftover after I juice my produce?” Good news is there are plenty of ideas to inspire you to start using the pulp so it doesn’t go to waste.

1. In the mood for something warm? Add it to your next soup recipe or make your own veggie broth.

2. Add to your favorite vegetarian burger recipe. It adds flavor, texture, moisture and nutrition.

3. Use pulp from homemade cinnamon hazelnut milk to make Raw Cinnamon Rolls!

4. Add it to your next smoothie recipe to add in additional fiber. You’ll be surprised how you won’t be able to taste it!

5. Add pulp to add nutrients to delicious muffins.

6. Compost your pulp and add it to your garden.

7. Make an Italian favorite into a nutrient rich dish by using pulp to make vegetarian Spaghetti & Meatballs

8. If you don’t have time to use the pulp immediately, you can place it in resealable bags and freeze it until you are ready. While some of the nutritional value may be lost when freezing, most of the fiber will remain.

9. Feed it to your furry friends! Add a little leftover kale pulp to your dog’s food bowl, they will scarf it down.

What Do I Do with Leftover Juice Pulp?

By Tess Masters

One of the questions I get asked most about juicing is “What can I do with the juice pulp?” Tons of things! Read on for 20 of my favorite uses for leftover juice pulp—and get inspired to reduce your food waste and make fantastic use of healthful fiber.

1. Blend pulp into a smoothie to add fiber.
2. Add to a soup to thicken and boost fiber and nutrient density.
3. Use fruit pulp to make frozen “pulpsicles” or fruit pulp ice.
4. Make a veggie broth by boiling pulp with water, herbs, and spices, then straining.
5. Make a “fruit tea” by boiling fruit pulp with water, adding spices such as cinnamon or ginger, cooling, and then straining.
6. Use veggie pulp to add nutrient density to mac n’ cheese or pasta sauce, or layer into a lasagna.
7. Make fabulous fruit leathers.
9. Use in homemade veggie burgers or fritters. Pulp adds moisture, flavor, and nutrition.
10. Mix pulp into baked goods like muffins, cakes, bread,  dehydrated or baked cookies, and granola bars. Celery, onion, carrot, sweet potato, spinach, apple, and berry all work beautifully.
11. Use fruit or veggie pulp to add flavor, texture, and moisture to pancakes.
12. Make dehydrated pulp crackers.
13. Use pulp for raw pizza crust.
14. Make pulp marmalade.
15. Make a pulp crumble by mixing pulp with fruit and juice, reducing, and then topping with oats, spices, nuts, or seeds.
16. Dehydrate and make trail mix with raw nuts, seeds, and dried fruits.
17. Dehydrate and use like bread crumbs.
18. Use in DIY skincare recipes like scrubs, masks, and soap.
19. Mix pulp into your dog’s food or make dog treats.
If all else fails:
20. Feed it to your chickens, freeze it in ice cube trays to use later, or compost it.

*Please note, the moisture content of your juice pulp can vary depending on your juicer, so you may need to squeeze out excess juice for the best results in some of these recipes.

Beauty review

Clarins gift set: So it was my birthday at the end of June and my very generous friend Louise bought me this awesome gift set. It has an exfoliating body scrub, a huge bottle of moisturising lotion and body oil. All three of these products smell different but just as lovely as the next.

The moisturiser is a beauty. Its not oily or sticky. It soaks right into the skin and really does make my skin feel loved! I havent looked to see how much they are as that would be rude! But im sure they are well worth the money!

The Body scrub is a small size so i have just been using this on my face to get the most out of it. It makes my skin feel really clean, soft and invigorated before applying any other creams afterwards.

Body oil i havent tried to use this yet as they do nake me a little nervous!  It smells really nice tho! I will have to try it when if ever i get a day off! 🙂

Glossybox review

So currently i am a subscriber to Glossybox which i love. Its like getting a little present every month even tho its not my birthday! Its awesome!

In the box you get a number of gifts… well not really gifts as there is a subscription fee of course…. but you get either samples or full size products to try out.

Some are products that you may have heard of and some that you wont, but they are always in my experience been good quality(mostly).

So this picture shows how beautifully packaged it is. They have shown that there is a lot of effort gone into each box and it isn’t something that just gets thrown together with little thought.image

Starting on a negative…I was a little disappointed with this So Susan Rose Quartet, it’s in a cheap looking black plastic container and the texture of the product itself feels a little cheap. Like the sort of stuff that you would get in a princess magazine when you were like 6…with those crazy plastic glittery heels and a wand…same thing. This was the only thing in the box that didn’t hit the mark with me. Other people may have loved it.

image

My favourite thing in the box. Its a tinted lip butter which comes in this very cute little box, very art deco. The lip butter itself feels really nice on and the colour is really pigmented which is always good. I’m not into wishy washy lip shades.image

Shinier, stronger, thicker, smoother, more supple, frizz-free, heat and humidity-proof hair – All you hair problems sorted at the same time. It smells great. In the box it was advertised to be around £9.99 to buy however I’ve seen it body care for £5. Still for the cost of the box and whats in it, still great quality for money!

This may seem a little strange but this razor is the best one i have ever used. Not because of the actual razor head itself, but when you put it down on the side of the bath, the head doesn’t touch the side…so it dries properly…it doesn’t get rusty… its amazing.image

With a colour palette inspired by that film, this mineral powder-based eye shadow is 100% natural and highly pigmented so it packs a punch. Mineral eye shadow’s are always good! This one is no different. Great colour, great texture, lasting power. Thanks Glossy box another smasher 🙂

Even got a little sweet treat of love hearts in here as well seeming this is the valentines day special box.

I’d definitely recommend finding a subscription box to people that are interested in beauty products. It gives you the chance to find out about new stuff without having to pay big bucks for them.

Perfume

image

Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress,

Christian Dior

For me scent is one of life’s most joyous creations. It probably is to you too. Maybe not in such an obvious way, you are probably thinking, there are a lot more important things in life than the way i smell. But is there??

On a very basic level, scent defines who your attracted to. Before perfumes, before how clean you are or even how unclean you are. Without even knowing your body uses the smell of someone to tell if they would make a good mate. If they are strong, fit, If they are genetically viable to produce good offspring. So pretty important huh?

Smells are around all of the time. Sometimes they are there and you don’t notice. Until years later and you smell that smell again and your transported back in time. Reminded of a close family memory, your first day of high school or of a past lover. Whatever it is, its unintentional, its innocent and its unavoidable.

The way something smells can bring out a wave of emotions, happy, sad, loving, longing.

That new book smell, cut grass, cinnamon and just after it rains are my personal faves.

image

In a more materialistic way it can also tell you a lot about some one. If they have money, what brands they buy into. If you get good enough at it, you can pretty much know the wearers personality.

Also the way each perfume sits on the wearers skin is different from person to person. It may smell great on one person and smell awful on someone else. It really is a personal thing. It may not be a priority of mine to get the latest perfumes or the most expensive, but when making memories, smells play such an important role.
